How To Be Born Again

Links

“How to be Born Again.”

John 3:3

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God .”

The context of this verse is a conversation Jesus was having with a leader of the Jews known as Nicodemus. Telling him to be born again was very descriptive to him, so descriptive that he thought Jesus meant he had to enter again into his mother’s womb and be born. The Greek language used in the writing of Scripture is much more descriptive than English and often we don’t see how powerful a word or group of words really are. It is obvious by Nicodemus’s response to these words that Jesus was speaking of an experience that paralleled physical birth, however Jesus explains;

John 3:6-7

6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

A Spiritual birth that seems to parallel physical birth. This would imply that something without life in itself would be touched by something that could bring life to it. The Bible teaches us that because of what Adam did in the garden, all are born dead, not physically, but Spiritually. The born again experience is simply when Jesus breathes in us with His breathe of life and that breathe, which is His Holy Spirit, hits our dead spirit and we are raised from Spiritual death, to Spiritual life.

John 3:3

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God .”

Romans 5:12

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.

John 20:21-22

21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Steps to being Born Again

1.   Repent of your way

Repenting doesn’t mean that you, on your own, must stop sinning and living the way you do. Repentance litrerally means to make a 180 degree turn and go the opposite way. Repentance is an attitude that leads to action. It is something you feel deep within, that you want and need change and you see Jesus as the one to lead you to that change. He will deliver you from the sin, you must want to be delivered.

2.   Receive Jesus

Once you have decided that Jesus is the way and you want to go His way, invite Him to come into your life and take charge. Tell Him that He is to be the Lord, or boss over your life from this day on. Commit to learning as much about Him as you can from reading the Bible, attending a Bible teaching church, and hanging out with others who love His ways.

3.   Rejoice

Now thank Him. Feelings and Faith are not the same thing. You may or may not feel anything, but faith dictates that since Jesus said He would come in and cause you to be born again, that settles it and you rejoice that He is in your life as Lord, right now!

Thank Him for your salvation, because if you meant it, He is there!

A New Lifestyle

Now plan to put yourself in a position to be taught and blessed by God.

1.                Find a Bible teaching and believing church.

2.                Get a good study Bible

3.                Find friends who serve the Lord.

4.                Use common sense with old friendships. If your old friends lead you back

to the things you did before, stop these friendships.
